What a perfect review!

Some slop is unworthy of one's time!

You haven't reviewed Oscar nominated work like The Wrestler or Slumdog Millionaire, but you went to the mall cop movie ?
I find that hard to believe. Someone who has a very strong opinion about movies. I woud have bet money that you would have avoided a movie like that. Kevin James is a decent stand up comic but he is not talented enough to carry a movie all by himself.

I viewed the trailer with Alan Smithee & we both chuckled a couple of times & I turned to him & said, "It looks silly, but we'll give it a shot."
What can I say? I prefer comedies. So, yes, I go see a lot of crap hoping for something entertaining like 'Role Models', instead of 'I Know Pronounce You Chuck & Larry'.
I knew 'Mall Cop' was going to be a bummer as soon as I saw it was an Adam Sandler production. If I'd known that going in, we would have waited until it came to the 'bargain' theatre.
& if I have no interest in seeing a film, why should I pay money to see it just because others found it worthy? My wife has 0 interest
in Slumdog & neither of us are 'Wrasslin' fans. One critic remarked how the film brought back memories of all the 'wrasslers' he grew up watching... Even when I was a dumb kid, I knew 'wrasslin' was a joke & I've never liked Mickey Rourke as an actor (Or a rehab patient) so I'm sure that if I ever do get a chance to see 'The Wrestler' (If I can still afford HBO next year) I won't enjoy it & will more than likely switch channels before it ends.
Back to comedies - I thought K.James was fine in the bumbling supporting role of 'Hitch', but since then he has been in 2 disasters - which is what happens when you hook up with the extremely unfunny A. Sandler.
So you're right, he can't carry a film by himself - & what is with this trend of matching homely obese guys with exceptionally cute women? It's not a healthy trend, & I blame Seth Rogen!

Ouch ! I'm just coming back from getting a root canal on a lower pre-molar. That was more painful ( my first ) than I had ever imagined. And I have many hours of work to do.

In rebuttle to your analogy on not liking the subject matter ( wrasslin' ) or poor children in Mumbai, I always go back to the notion of the people or the story, and how well those things are fleshed out and how real they seem. Some movies will surprise you. Both of those did. Before any awards came their way, I made my mind up for myself. I was not swayed critically. Not that that is a bad thing though. Sometimes the consensus is correct.

I have definitely seen movies that I wasn't a big fan of the genre or subject matter and liked the film. I hate baseball, but liked Bull Durham. I'm not a fan of hockey, but liked Slap Shot. I'm sure as heck not a fan of bigtime wrestling, but even though that is the premise of The Wrestler, it's more based on " a person " about a man who's time has ran out and how he deals with that situation. It's easy to put yourself in his situation. I think your wife would like The Wrestler. Just being a female, I can speak for many that liked it. What can I say, it'd endearing and touching. You wouldn't think a tough like Rourke had this sensitive side in him.

I would use this analogy. I promise you ( and show this comment to the little lady ) you have paid for and seen much worse performances and movies than Slumdog and The Wrestler. Rourke's performance is impressive. Tomei is good too. Slumdog is just a film about overcoming harsh realities and that even though the odds are against you in an very obvious non fake way. Things can get better. You can also have love in your life. How can you fake the slums of Mumbai ? I say if anything, give the films a chance.

Like I have said, you went to the freaking mall cop movie and The Love Guru, paid money for those, the other two are much better than that.

I was the first out of my friends to see both movies, with not seeing one review, so I can safely say I didn't bandwagon and I came away thinking these were touching films.

I will not claim that I'm a HUGE fan of Mickey, but I think he did good work in Diner, Rumblefish, Angel Heart, Johnny Handsome and Barfly.

Just saying.
